In Praise of Wonder

In Praise of Wonder

I came across a delightful post on Instagram the other day:

I love this idea. My oldest and their friends have a Discord channel devoted to quotes, where some of the random things I say show up there with a modest frequency. But for me it's typically funny things, perhaps most infamously "Nine to five workin', five to nine twerkin'!" Nothing quite as profound as this:

Who taught you that wonder, love, and learning were supposed to be easy? No, they're hard, and that's the point, because they're so precious. You have to do the work, have all the missteps/mistakes/misadventures, before they'll reveal their secrets.

Wonder, to me, precedes the other two. Like you have to be open to wonder, you have to be curious, vulnerable, ready to explore, willing to be surprised, before you can truly experience love or learn something new.

Ink on Paper

My buddy Josh Brindle (JJ Brinski) is releasing another book of poetry, and he asked me to design the cover. We went through a few rounds of drafts before settling on this really cool mix of various typefaces! I ran a bunch of copies, and you can get one in one of the reward tiers.

On the Bench

I'm writing this from Larsmont Cottages in Two Harbors, MN, where I'm at for Sauna Days! Over a dozen saunas, the world's largest cold plunge - Lake Superior - just a few steps away, workshops & lectures, and more!

I'm headed back to the heat. See you out there,
