You Can Just Do Stuff - Part 2
Three weeks ago, my friend Jess and I coordinated getting 2 mobile saunas into Hancock Beach with no idea what was going to happen. Would people use them? We’d never met the owners of the saunas, would they actually show up? Do people even come to Juhannus? Would the event organizers never want to work with us again?
I’ve learned that more often than not, the “this might not work” space is where the coolest stuff happens. You’re out of your comfort zone, giving it your best shot, dancing with an uncertain future. It’s the only way to be open to surprise, open to something new, open to transformation. This is when we do our best work. Bowie said it best.
The saunas were a huge hit! At one point, there were 13 people packed into a barrel sauna meant for 8. There were delegations from all over the Finno-Ugric homelands, too. I talked with an Irish Finn from Helsinki, and was invited to a music showcase in Estonia next spring. When it came time to haul the saunas out, we had to double-check to make sure that no one was still in them, because folks just kept taking heat! Great connections were made, it was a beautiful evening, and we’re already laying plans for another sauna gathering in Marquette for this fall.
Also a goat showed up, but that’s a story for another time.

Upcoming Events
Pride was a blast, despite being incredibly windy (not ideal for a vendor of paper products)!
I’ve decided to not do the Outback this year. I simply don’t have the bandwidth in July to devote an entire weekend to a booth.
8/22 - Chocolay Bayou Art Walk
Keeping it short. It’s summer, we’re all busy. Go be weird and do stuff!
See you out there,
PB
